Kuma Radar · Published · Updated

When reviewing public records around a campsite, read the dates and the source coverage as well as the distances. Opening status, access conditions and on-site procedures come from the campsite or accommodation manager.

Check regional and facility information before booking

Use the campsite or vehicle-stay facility’s address to identify its prefecture, then look at nearby public records. Include walks or waterside places you plan to use during the stay. The map does not classify a campsite as safe based on its distance from records.

Read local government announcements and current facility information. Follow the manager’s information for questions about access or use. A facility being open and having no bear-related instructions are separate things to check.

Recheck dates and coverage before departure

Revisit information you read when booking. Switch between seven-day and 30-day views and compare the official document’s coverage date with individual sighting dates. Do not treat old records as the situation on the day of your visit; read current facility notices too.

Use official and campsite guidance for food and rubbish

The Ministry of the Environment publishes material about keeping food and rubbish from bears. Check the original guidance and your facility’s equipment and procedures for storage and disposal. The map does not provide campsite equipment information.

Read nearby public records during your stay

Use radar for directions and straight-line distances, then open the list for sighting dates and descriptions. Even a nearby record refers to a different moment from now. The paw icon does not detect physical tracks currently found on site.

If results are empty or imports are unsupported in that region, follow the sources page to original local information. Record counts are neither bear counts nor a campsite risk score.

Common questions

Can I confidently choose a campsite with no nearby map points?

The map alone cannot establish that. Information may be unpublished or not imported. Check local government and facility announcements as well.

Do paw markers only mean actual footprints?

No. Public sightings, signs and similar records use the same marker. Read the record description and official source to understand the original report.
